I have battled my weight since the birth of my first stubborn child, Megan, who is now 19. Through the years, I have jumped on the bandwagon of many lifestyle diet plans. For me most have been successful for a short while and then I feel off of the bandwagon. As you can see from the photos on the left, I have been up and down with my weight most of my life. Recently with this new change in my lifestyle, I have a certain motivation to give my body an overhaul. I want to be healthier and more physically fit.
For years I have abused my body my spiraling up and down in my weight. My motivation is the fact that I have come to the realization that according to Psalms 139:14; I was fearfully and wonderfully made. Now, I knew this before but the Sunday and decided to make some changes to my lifestyle, this verse struck me. “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). It was also bought to my attention that I am accountable to God for the way that I care for my body, which in the past has not been well taken care of. It struck me that the foods I was eating and the fact that I wasn't as active as I could be, meant I was taken care of His temple, which He loaned me for a while.
So ask yourself, how would you describe your temple (your body)? It is up to us to choose how we will care for His Creation. He gave me this body and trusted me to care for it and use it properly. As Psalms 139:14 indicates, it was fearfully and wonderfully made and in this temple dwells the Holy Spirit!
So how is that for motivation? This lifestyle that I have chosen to make a change to has some biblical foundations. I can honestly say, I wouldn't be as successful as I have been thus far if it wasn't for God. These pictures will serve as my reminder, that I have only been loaned this temple and like anything that is being lent to me, I want to care for it appropriately. If you are one of those who feel like you need to gain control of your body, trust in Him to sustain you on this journey.
Along this journey that I am on now, I will continue to post progress reports.. As of this date, I am down 23 pounds. The last photo in the group is one of the most recent.
